Iran is capable of active actions in Persian Gulf in response to U.S. pressure - Russian ambassador in Tehran

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - The closure by Iran of the Ormuz Strait in response to the U.S. pressure is an absolutely undesirable scenario, Russian Ambassador in Tehran Levan Dzhagaryan said.

"Iranian officials, including the military, have repeatedly spoken about such possibility. Clearly, such scenario is absolutely undesirable," he said in an interview with the newspaper Kommersant.

"The Iranian budget is very dependent on revenues from oil sale and therefore the Iranian authorities will take active actions to counter U.S. threats," he said.

Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to the supreme leader of Iran, earlier said that if Iran cannot export oil through the Persian Gulf then no one can do that.
