Northern Fleet ships hold artillery drills in Barents Sea

MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The large landing ships "Kondopoga" and "Alexander Otrakovsky" of the Russian Navy's Northern Fleet held a set of coast artillery fire drills, the Fleet's spokesperson said on Tuesday.

"The crews of the landing ships tested their onboard skills and carried out live fire drills destroying coastal targets and repelling mock enemy airstrikes," a statement said.

The coastal targets were placed on a testing range on Rybachy peninsula. The ships fired at and hit the targets with mounted 57mm AK-725 artillery weapons.

"Over the past few days the crews of the landing ships, jointly with Northern Fleet marines, have been honing their amphibious skills at a roadstead off Severomorsk, by landing the amphibious forces and armor onto an unprepared shore," the statement said.
