ISIL militants shell Israeli territory seeking to provoke Israel's counterstrike on Syrian army positions - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. July 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Militants of the Islamic State (ISIL) group (banned in Russia) shelled Israeli territory and were then eliminated by Israel's air force and artillery, the Russian Defense Mnistry said.

"At around 9:30 p.m. Moscow time on July 25, militants of the ISIL terrorist group launched a missile strike on Israel's territory from the area near the populated localities of Nafah and Shajarah [in the Al-Quneitra governorate], trying to provoke Israeli forces' strike on positions of the Syrian government's army," the ministry said.

"All of these ISIL terrorists and their missile systems were promptly neutralized in a pinpoint counterstrike conducted by the Israeli Defense Forces' air force and artillery," it said.

The command of the Russian group of forces in Syria used the existing communication channels to extend its gratitude to the Israeli Defense Forces command for eliminating the terrorists and preventing the terrorists' large-scale provocation, it said.
