Russian ambassador in London planning to discuss level of bilateral relations with UK Foreign Secretary soon

MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax) - Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko is planning to meet with the country's new Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt in the near future.

Yakovenko told Rossiya-24 television channel that he had received Hunt's invitation for a meeting.

"I received a letter from the Foreign Office that he would like to meet. I think such a meeting will be organized in the very near future," Yakovenko said.

He stressed that he would like to discuss with Hunt "the level of bilateral relations."

There is no specific agreement yet as to when the meeting will take place, he said.

The ambassador hopes to be able to explain some things to Hunt "better than to his predecessor [Boris Johnson]."

"Perhaps he will make a decision that this is in Britain's national interests," Yakovenko said, stressing that Russia aims to preserve the positive agenda with London.
