Russia ups grain exports 51% in July 1-August 8 period - Agriculture Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - Russia exported 5.6 million tonnes of grain in the current agricultural year (July 2018-June 2019) through August 8, up 51% from 3.7 million tonnes exported in the same period last year, the Agriculture Ministry reported, citing Federal Customs Service (FCS) operational data that excludes exports to other EAEU countries.

Russia exported 4.6 million tonnes of wheat in the period, nearly double the amount in the same period last year. Barley exports were down 18% to 683,000 tonnes and corn exports fell 35% to 288,000 tonnes.

Exports of other crops increased 110% to 43,000 tonnes.

The Agriculture Ministry forecasts that grain exports in the current agricultural year (July 2018-June 2019), given a harvest of 100 million tonnes, may amount to 40 million-45 million tonnes compared with 52.4 million tonnes in the previous year. Russia harvested a record 135.4 million tonnes of grain last year.
