Georgian Foreign Ministry calls Russian military drills in Abkhazia threat to stability

TBILISI. Aug 14 (Interfax) - Russia's military exercises in Abkhazia destabilize the security situation in the region, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

"This is yet another attempt by Russia to demonstrate its military power, which simultaneously poses the threat of using force against Georgia," local media quoted the ministry as saying.

Georgia does not ignore any "such provocative actions by Russia" and immediately informs the international community of them, it said.

"We also routinely bring up the buildup of Russia's military presence, illegal militarization, and regular military exercises in the occupied territories of Georgia at the international Geneva discussions, where we stress that the Russian Federation's activities promote the destabilization of the situation on the ground," the ministry said.
