Vajpayee contributed much to Russia-India partnership - Putin

MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the death of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, an outstanding statesman and the former prime minister of India, the Kremlin said.

"Atal Bihari Vajpayee was rightfully considered a figure of high international authority. He will be remembered as a politician who made a great personal contribution to the development of friendly relations between our countries, to the formation of Russia's and India's particularly privileged strategic partnership," Putin said.

He expressed sympathy with the family of the deceased, the government, and the people of India, the statement said.
