U.S. position on Syrian refugees destructive, UN Security Council is unlikely to make positive decisions - Lavrov
MOSCOW. Aug 20 (Interfax) - The position of the United States on the return of refugees to Syria is absolutely destructive, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"Naturally, we are drawing the attention of the UN Security Council to this situation, which does not meet the tasks stated in Resolution 2254, but, taking into account the absolutely destructive position of the U.S., it is difficult to hope that the Security Council will make any positive decisions on this problem at this point," Lavrov told a press conference after talks with the Lebanese foreign minister.
Russia will continue working on this issue with the countries that "understand the urgency of the proposed measures to return refugees, the creation of necessary conditions for that," including by Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and the European countries, he said.
