Poroshenko again dismisses idea of Ukraine's federalization
KYIV. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Ukraine will remain a unitary state, and its authorities will not allow its federalization, according to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
"Ukraine is a unitary state, we won't allow any federalization with regard to the key elements of the functioning of states," Poroshenko wrote on Twitter on Monday.
At the same time, Poroshenko mentioned the de-centralization program that is being introduced in Ukraine, which delegates "huge rights" to local communities and reduces "the distance between the people and the government."
Ukrainian Choice party leader Viktor Medvedchuk said earlier that Ukraine's federalization is "the only medicine" that can prevent its disintegration and expressed dismay that "everything is moving in the opposite direction now."
