Armenia won't let Azerbaijan join CSTO - Foreign Ministry
YEREVAN. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Armenia will not agree to the prospect of Azerbaijan becoming a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Armenian Foreign Ministry's acting spokesperson Anna Nagdalyan said at a press briefing on Tuesday.
"If such an issue is considered, Armenia will use its veto right," Nagdalyan said.
There has been no headway in appointing the organization's new secretary general, she said.
"As you know, Armenia has initiated the process of replacing the CSTO secretary general. The stage of discussions aimed at finding consensus-based decisions ensued and is continuing at the moment. This post belongs to Armenia for three years," she said.
Several media outlets have reported recently that Azerbaijan may be interested in joining the CSTO. Baku, however, has not so far issued any official statements on that score.
