Putin proposes that unemployment benefit for people of pre-retirement age double to 11,000 rubles
MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for expanding social guarantees for people of the pre-retirement age, for instance, for more than doubling their employment benefits.
"If a person of the pre-retirement age resigns and finds oneself between jobs, we should broaden his or her social guarantees. Hence I suggest that we more than double the maximum unemployment benefit for people of the pre-retirement age, from current 4,900 rubles to 11,280 rubles on January 1, 2019," Putin said in his televised address to the nation.
He noted that the benefit should be paid for one year.
Putin added that "employers should be compelled to annually give workers of the pre-retirement age two days for undergoing a free health check while retaining their salary."
