Peskov not confirming reports Federation Council speaker may be replaced

MOSCOW. Aug 30 (Interfax) - The Kremlin has not confirmed media reports that Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko may be replaced.

"It is necessary to ask the authors of these reports why they think so," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Thursday when commenting on reports that the speaker of the Russian parliament's upper chamber may be replaced.

Some media outlets have reported that the Federation Council's leadership may be replaced, naming Federation Council Deputy Chairperson Andrei Turchak and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu as possible candidates for the post of the chamber's speaker.
