Shoigu says Tu-142s resume flights in Arctic
MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax-AVN) - Tupolev Tu-142 anti-submarine warfare (ASW) planes of the Northern Fleet have resumed their flights in the Arctic, according to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
"Tu-142 ASW planes have resumed their trans-Arctic flights in high altitudes," Shoigu said at a meeting of the ministry's collegium on Friday.
The Northern Fleet is continuing to master the operation of Yasen and Borei submarines armed with cruise and ballistic missiles, Shoigu said.
"A group of warships and support vessels are accomplishing missions on the Northern Sea Route at the moment," he said.
Discussing other activity of the Northern Fleet, Shoigu mentioned the strategic missile submarine Yury Dolgoruky, which successfully test-fired a salvo of four Bulava ballistic missiles in May.
