Liability for firing people of pre-pension age may bar them from employment - FNPR head
MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - The introduction of criminal liability for employers who dismiss people of pre-pension age may have a negative effect on workers, Mikhail Shmakov, the head of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FNPR), said.
"We need to be very careful about the proposal to introduce criminal liability for employers hiring or dismissing people of pre-pension age. This measure may have precisely the opposite effect and have an extremely negative impact on all employment relations, because there are simple ways of bypassing such measures," Shmakov told reporters on Friday.
The introduction of criminal liability will just "bar people of pre-pension age from getting jobs," he said.
The working group on improving the pension reform bill is currently meeting in the State Duma.
