Share of advanced equipment, weapons of radiation, chemical, biological protection troops to rise 10% by 2020 - Shoigu

MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - The share of advanced equipment and weapons in the radiation, chemical, and biological protection (RKhBZ) units will increase from today's 62% to 72% by 2020, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

"The share of advanced weapons has reached 62% and will reach 72% by 2020," Shoigu said at a meeting of the Defense Ministry's collegium on Friday.

The troops have repeatedly participated in responding to animal epidemics in 12 regions of Russia over the last two years, and the formation of 11 RKhBZ regiments has made it possible to react promptly to natural and man-made emergency situations in federal districts, he said.

"The response to the outbreak of anthrax in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in 2016 is a fine example of the troops' effective work in cooperation with other bodies of executive authority," Shoigu said.
