Russia harvests 81 mln tonnes of grain by Sept 3 - AgMin

MOSCOW. Sept 3 (Interfax) - Russia harvested 81 million tonnes of grain by September 3, which is 15.1 million tonnes less than this time last year, the Russian Agriculture Ministry said.

Farmers had cleared 28.4 million hectares of the area under grains and grain legumes, 61.1% of the whole area. Grain yields had fallen by 5.6 centners to 28.5 centners per hectare.

Farmers had cleared 66.1% of the wheat area, bringing in 58.7 million tonnes of wheat, down from 67.8 million tonnes a year ago, with average yield at 32.6 centners/ha, down from 38.4 centners/ha. Barley had been cleared from 70.3% of the area, with 13.9 million tonnes tonnes harvested (17.5 million tonnes) at 23.6 centners/ha (29.4 centners/ha).

Grain corn had been harvested from 4.5% of the crop area, with 353,100 tonnes gathered in (256,400 tonnes) at 31.2 centners/ha (49.3 centners/ha).

The ricer harvest bad begun in the Krasnodar territory, with 28.000 tonnes harvested at 60.9 centners/ha.

Sugar beet harvest so far was 4 million tonnes (5.2 million tonnes) from 10.4% at 340.4 centners/ha (423.4 centners/ha) and flax-fiber had been harvested from 19,600 ha (16,500 ha) or 44% of the area.

Soya harvest was 237,600 tonnes (131,000 tonnes) from 5.3% of the area at 15.4 centners/ha (19.6 centners/ha), sunflower - 364,300 tonnes (158,000 tonnes) from 2.2% at 20,100 centers/ha (20.3 centners/ha) and rapeseed - 769,000 tonnes (485,100 tonnes) from 27.2% at 17.9 centners/ha (21 centners/ha).

Potatoes had been harvested from 13% of the area, with 973,300 tonnes (833,300 tonnes) brought in and yield at 245.9 centners/ha (254 centners/ha) and vegetables from 35.1% with 1.1 million tonnes harvested (877,500 tonnes) at 184.1 centners/ha (170.9 centners/ha).
