Russia honors norms of int'l humanitarian law during military operations in Syria - Lavrov

BERLIN. Sept 14 (Interfax) - Russia is guided by the norms of international humanitarian law while carrying out military operations in Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in comments on Western countries' statements that Moscow and Damascus are committing war crimes in Idlib.

"As to war crimes, there are certain procedures stipulated by international law, international humanitarian law, and they should be honored. We are always guided by the norms of humanitarian law, when we are conducting operations involving military actions," Lavrov told Interfax at a press conference in Berlin.

"The Russian Federation is in Syria at the Syrian legitimate government's invitation. I reiterate that we stand ready to discuss any situations, but we want to do that concretely and precisely, but not at the level of rhetoric and not at the level of highly-likely, so, only to choose some arguments to justify their unlawful actions then," Lavrov said.
