Russia to hold major military exercise every five years - Shoigu

MOSCOW. Sept 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will hold a large-scale military exercise similar to the Vostok 2018 maneuvers every five years, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.

"Naturally, we had been planning these drills, we intend to hold them further, every five years," Shoigu said in an interview aired on Rossiya-1 television in the Far East on Sunday.

Such exercises will be held under the ten-year state armament program, he said.

This week Russia held the Vostok 2018 strategic maneuvers which involved nearly one-third of its army.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, around 300,000 personnel took part, including military command staffs and troops from two military districts - Eastern and Central, the Pacific and the Northern Fleets, Airborne Troops, and strategic and military transport aircraft of the Aerospace Forces.
