Relative of Sergei, Yulia Skripals involved in road accident on way to Moscow from Yaroslavl
YAROSLAVL. Sept 28 (Interfax) - A car carrying Viktoria Skripal, a niece of former Russian military intelligence officer Skripal and a cousin of his daughter Yulia, was involved in a road accident in the Moscow region.
"My husband and I were on our way from Yaroslavl to Moscow to take part in a TV program and also for our own business. After we entered the Moscow region, one of the car's wheels came off," Viktoria Skripal told Interfax.
She said her husband managed to stop the car safely by steering it into a guardrail.
"The road accident happened on Wednesday. A wheel broke apart, but we had checked the car before the trip. We were not speeding. I don't know whether it's just a coincidence or not," she said.
Nobody was injured in the accident. The car is currently under repair in Yaroslavl, Viktoria Skripal said.
Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia were found unconscious in Salisbury, the United Kingdom, in early March 2018. UK Prime Minister Theresa May said later at the parliament that the Skripals had been poisoned with a nerve agent known as Novichok (A-234) developed in Russia. Moscow dismissed the accusations and insisted that Russia destroyed all of its chemical weapons under the supervision of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in 2017.
