Damascus expects S-300 to be shipped from Russia within 2 weeks, hopes they will close Syrian airspace from Israeli planes - Muallem

NEW YORK. Sept 28 (Interfax) - Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem said he expects Russian S-300 air defense systems to be shipped to Syria within two weeks and hopes they will close Syrian airspace from Israeli warplanes.

"As Mr. Shoigu [Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu] has said, we will receive them within two weeks," Muallem told journalists.

Asked whether these systems are capable of closing Syrian airspace from Israeli planes, he said, "I hope so."

Syria would like also to receive S-400 air defense missile systems from Russia, Muallem said. "We also expect S-400s," he said.
