Rusal plants reduce aluminum exports 7% in Sept - RZD

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Russian aluminum giant UC Rusal's smelters shipped 261,000 tonnes of aluminum abroad in September, 7% less than in August 2018, Russian Railways (RZD) said in materials, seen by Interfax.

Aluminum exports rose 7% month-on-month in August to 281,000 tonnes.

Aluminum exports plummeted 70% month-on-month in April, when Rusal was hit by U.S. sanctions, but bounced back 2.6-fold in May. June exports rose 49% and then fell 10% in July.

Aluminum shipments to the domestic market rose 7% in September compared to August 2018 to 39,000 tonnes as aluminum exports fell.

Overall aluminum shipments fell 5.6% month-on-month in September to 299,600 tonnes.

Aluminum exports in 9M 2018 rose 14% compared to the same period last year, totaling 2.072 million tonnes.

Alumina imports to Rusal smelters increased 8.6% to 395,000 tonnes in September and were up 5% in 9M to 3.48 million tonnes.
