Governor of Russia's Trans-Baikal Territory plans to resign

CHITA. Oct 11 (Interfax) - Trans-Baikal Territory Governor Natalia Zhdanova has announced plans to step down, the regional government's press service said.

"I would like to note that this is in no way related to allegations and rumors being spread in the past few days. It has nothing to do with criticism and verbal attacks on me, either. The decision that I have made stems from by personal motives and objective circumstances that are opening a new period in my life, which will be equally interesting and responsible," the press service quoted Zhdanova as saying.

Zhdanova also thanked residents of the region for their support and apologized for her mistakes.

Zhdanova first became the head of the Trans-Baikal Territory in 2016. She won the region's gubernatorial election in September 2018, receiving more than 54% of the vote.
