Putin expects int'l community to help rebuild Syria

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - Russia is expecting the international community to rebuild Syria's economy together, President Vladimir Putin said.

"The agenda is to rebuild the devastated economy and infrastructure and to bring home millions of refugees, which will reduce the migration burden carried by many European countries. We expect the international community to make assistance to Syrians in the achievement of these goals a common objective," Putin said while receiving credentials from foreign ambassadors on Thursday.

The resolution of humanitarian problems is an important area of cooperation, he said.

Discussing Russia's contribution to the settlement of the Syrian crisis, Putin said, "Our crucial role has helped crush international terrorist fighters and preserve the country's sovereignty."

The outcome of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi and UN Security Council Resolution 2254 "laid the groundwork for intensifying peace talks," Putin said. "We are actively at work establishing the Syria Constitutional Committee in collaboration with partners in the Astana format," he said.
