Russian embassy to France looking into report of detention of Chechens for racketeering

MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax) - Russian diplomats are working to verify reports that a group of natives of Chechnya have been detained in Paris and checking to see whether they have Russian citizenship, a spokesperson for the Russian embassy to France told Interfax on Monday.

"We are looking into these reports, including as to whether the detained have Russian citizenship," the spokesperson said.

According to French media reports on Sunday, a group of natives of Chechnya had been detained on racketeering charges. They reportedly extorted money from truck drivers arriving in Paris from Eastern Europe.
