Criminal case opened after package blast in Kazan

KAZAN. Oct 15 (Interfax) - Law enforcement agencies are investigating the explosion of a package in a Kazan office in which two people were hurt, the press service for the Russian Investigative Committee's Tatarstan branch said.

The crime has been classified as "attempted murder of two or more persons."

According to the investigators, Mikhail Skoblionok, a Kazan businessman and president of the Jewish National And Cultural Autonomy of the Republic of Tatarstan, and his assistant sustained burns and eye injuries as a result of the explosion of an unidentified device in an office on Poperechno-Noksinskaya Street on the morning of October 15.

"They were both hospitalized in an eye clinic," the press service said.

Investigators believe the accident may be linked to the victims' commercial activities.
