Primorye Elections Commission to start accepting candidate applications on Oct 26

VLADIVOSTOK. Oct 16 (Interfax) - The Primorye Elections Commission says it will start accepting applications from gubernatorial candidates on October 26.

"Candidates can start submitting their applications on October 26," Primorye Elections Commission Deputy Chairman Roman Okhotnikov told Interfax.

The commission approved the working hours of offices that will be accepting applications on Tuesday, he said.

According to an appendix to the Primorye Legislative Assembly's resolution on the repeat gubernatorial election, the nomination of candidates will start on October 26 and documents required for registration will be submitted between November 11 and November 18. A decision on registration requests will be made within seven days.

It also said that candidates might start campaigning on November 26.

The Primorye Legislative Assembly decided at a special meeting on Tuesday to hold the election on December 16.

Two rounds of the gubernatorial election took place on September 9 and September 16. Their results were annulled due to multiple violations that accompanied the voting process. The region's acting governor, Andrei Tarasenko, who was nominated by United Russia, and the Communist Party's nominee Andrei Ishchenko competed in the second round.

Tarasenko then withdrew from the race. He was replaced by Oleg Kozhemyako, most recently the Sakhalin region's governor, who intends to run in the Primorye Territory's election as a self-nominee.
