Lavrov welcomes Turkish-Saudi agreement on investigation of Khashoggi's disappearance
MOSCOW. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Russia supports calls for an investigation into the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"I support the calls that we're hearing for this investigation to be conducted as soon as possible, and we welcome the agreement achieved between Turkey and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on steps to enable this investigation," Lavrov said in an interview on the television channel Euronews.
"I hope that the results will be made available to the world community," he said.
Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, who has been living in the United States since 2017, disappeared in Turkey on October 2 after entering the building of the Consulate General of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul. He repeatedly criticized the policy of the Saudi authorities.
