Putin offers condolences to Indian leaders on railroad accident in Punjab
MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has forwarded condolences to Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the tragic consequences of a railroad accident in the state of Punjab, the Kremlin website said on Friday.
"I ask you to convey my words of compassion and support to the relatives and loved ones of the dead and wish the soonest recovery to all those injured," Putin said in his message.
Media reported earlier that about 50 people were feared dead and numerous others injured after a train ran through a crowd of people in the state of Punjab. The media said the people were burning an effigy on the tracks while celebrating the Hindu festival of Dussehra.
