Moscow, Minsk looking for proper response to possible deployment of U.S. base in Poland - Lukashenko (P art 2)
MINSK. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Minsk and Moscow are exploring options for an appropriate and uncostly response should the U.S. create a permanent U.S. military base in Poland, "Fort Trump," Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.
"Of course this concerns us. If, for instance, in Poland they're saying they're willing to spend millions of dollars to deploy [...] some Fort Trump there, of course we are not idiots, and of course we will respond to that," Lukashenko said at a Munich Security Conference Core Group Meeting in Minsk on Wednesday.
"Of course, we, together with our main ally [Russia], are thinking about how we could oppose this and how we could find the proper response with minimum costs," he said.
Belarus and Russia would not like to spend money on measures in response to the deployment of a U.S. military base in Poland, Lukashenko said. "Really, we have other things to spend money on, he said.
"Having started this media clatter and brandishing nuclear warheads, they [key world actors] don't even think about security of their nations," he said.
