Russia, China preparing general contract for Tianwan NPP, plus executive contracts for Xudabao NPP in 2019

MOSCOW. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Rosatom is holding talks with Chinese clients on closing a general contract for the third phase of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), including power units Nos. 7-8, and are also planning to sign executive contracts for the construction of power units Nos. 3-4 at the Xudabao NPP, Rosatom's corporate newspaper Strana Rosatom said.

"We have already signed a framework contract for the construction of units Nos. 7-8 at Tianwan NPP. Now we are starting to draw up the documentation for the engineering design, we are holding talks on closing a general contract. Next year we are planning to sign an executive contract for the construction of two units at Xudabao NPP," the head of Atomstroyexport's Chinese project management department, Alexander Chukin was cited as saying in the paper. "I might add that preparation for the construction of two American-designed power units is already underway at this site [Xudabao NPP]. But owing to the effective cooperation between Russia and China in the nuclear field we have been entrusted with the second phase."

Prior to an exhibition in Shanghai, Russia and China signed four executive contracts for projects to build power units Nos. 7-8 at Tianwan NPP and a Chinese CFR600 fast-neutron demonstration reactor.
