Protectionism harms int'l trade system - Li Keqiang

BEIJING. Nov 7 (Interfax) - Unilateral approaches and protectionism damage the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the interests of China, Russia, and other countries, Premier of the Chinese State Council Li Keqiang said following talks with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.

"We discussed the current international situation, as well. We share the view that economic globalization is an irreversible trend. Protectionism and unilateral approaches harm the multilateral trade system, the core of which is the WTO, and harm the principles of international trade," Li said.

This "infringes upon the interests of Russia, China, and all countries in the world," he said. "China and Russia are active participants in the multilateral trade system and are a constructive force in building an open global economy," he said.

Moscow and Beijing stand ready to facilitate trade and investment and promote regional economic integration, Li said.
