Woman in Tomsk region accused of funding her ISIL ex-husbands - Russian Investigative Committee

MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax) - A woman in the Tomsk region has been accused of transferring 1 million rubles to her former husbands, fighters of the ISIL terrorist organization banned in Russia, Russian Investigative Committee spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko said.

"The Tomsk branch of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the basis of materials provided by the Federal Security Service (FSB) on counts of aiding and abetting terrorism by sponsoring (Part 1, Article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code)," Petrenko told Interfax on Thursday.

According to investigators, the woman who lives in Strezhevoi in the Tomsk region and works in a company as an operator transferred funds for organizing, preparing, and perpetrating ISIL crimes.

"From June 2016 till June 2017, the defendant used a remote-access system for repeated transfers of funds supporting the ISIL activity, a total of about 1 million rubles, to the bank card registered to the former spouse of members of an illegal armed unit operating in the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria," Petrenko said.

The home and workplace of the suspect were searched; Islamic books, pictures with Islamic symbols, mobile phones, electronic media and a laptop were seized, vehicles were examined, and employees of the financial institution through which the money was transferred, and the woman's family and friends were questioned.

"The questioned woman confirmed she had registered a bank card and handed it over to a woman residing in Germany and said that money was transferred with her knowledge to the accounts of third parties, and communication was maintained with persons involved in the formation of the armed unit," Petrenko said.

The woman was indicted and arrested, she said.

"The involvement of other persons in the crime is being studied in the course of the preliminary inquiry," Petrenko said.

The FSB has also reported the neutralization of an organized group raising funds for ISIL in the Tomsk region using the Telegram messenger.
