About 2,000 units of main weaponry, military hardware delivered to troops - Putin

BOCHAROV RUCHEI, Sochi. Nov 20 (Interfax) - About 2,000 units of main weaponry and military hardware have been delivered to the Russian Armed Forces as part of the state defense order, and many Russian developments are better than their foreign analogues, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"As of mid-November, about 2,000 units of main weaponry and military hardware had been supplied to the troops as part of the tasks set in the state defense order. Among them are 74 warplanes and helicopters, 80 unmanned aerial vehicles, and four regiment sets of S-400 air defense missile systems," Putin said at a conference on military matters on Tuesday.

Five surface ships and 250 tanks and combat armored vehicles have also been supplied to the troops, he said.

"I emphasize that advanced Russian weapons surpass their foreign analogues in the majority of tactical and technical characteristics," Putin said.

Russia's hypersonic weaponry, air defense systems, means of electronic warfare, and some ground weapons systems "simply have no analogues anywhere in the world," he said. "This serious foundation should be steadily developed, both by supporting the latest developments of our defense research institutes and design bureaus and through faster transition to serial production of promising weapons and equipment," he said.
