Rada to consider declaration of martial law on Monday - Poroshenko
KYIV/MOSCOW. Nov 26 (Interfax) - The Verkhovna Rada will consider the declaration of martial law at an extraordinary meeting on Monday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.
"The war cabinet has urged me to make a proposal at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC). It concerns the elaboration of the decision to declare martial law and the appeal to the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada so that it [...] could discuss the draft at an extraordinary meeting tomorrow if possible," Poroshenko said at the NSDC meeting in the early hours of Monday.
Poroshenko asked parliament deputies to arrive in Kyiv on Monday for an urgent meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.
"I'd like to ask parliament deputies to come to Kyiv tomorrow for an urgent meeting of the Verkhovna Rada so that we could discuss the draft behind closed doors and make a responsible decision necessary to defend the country," Poroshenko said.
As reported earlier, Russian border guards had to fire weapons in order to force Ukrainian warships to stop.
