Detained Ukrainian sailors to receive 50,000 hryvni each in govt aid
KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax) - Ukraine's Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak has signed an order to pay 50,000 hryvni ($1/28.29 hryvni) to each of the Ukrainian sailors detained in the Kerch strait on November 25.
"At the behest of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, I have just signed an order regarding the provision of material assistance in the amount of 50,000 hryvni to each of the Ukrainian Navy servicemen who were illegally captured and detained on November 25, 2018 while on a mission in the Kerch Strait," Poltorak wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday afternoon.
On Wednesday, November 28, representatives from the Ukrainian Navy command met with the sailors' families in Odesa, he said
In particular, they discussed providing the military sailors with international and national legal assistance and the measures being taken by Ukraine to secure their return, Poltorak said.
