Families ask U.S. to join efforts to secure release of Ukrainian sailors detained in Kerch Strait - Ukraine's Herashchenko
KYIV. Dec 6 (Interfax) - The families of the Ukrainian sailors recently detained in the Kerch Strait met with U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch on Wednesday and asked her to pass a letter to the U.S. presidential administration, calling on it to join the Ukrainian authorities' efforts to push for the sailors' release in Russia, Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada First Deputy Speaker Iryna Herashchenko wrote on her Facebook page on Wednesday.
"The families handed over a letter to the American government, asking it to campaign for the guys' release alongside the Ukrainian authorities. They also said these prisoners of war have not yet received letters of support from their families and have not been allowed to meet with Ukrainian consuls and diplomats," she said.
Ukraine thanks the world for its attention to the detained sailors and is awaiting resolute measures in relation to Russia in order to secure their release, she said.
