Rights activist Ponomaryov appeals arrest to Moscow City Court

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Lev Ponomaryov, the head of the movement For Human Rights, has appealed to the Moscow City Court the Tverskoi District Court's decision to arrest him for 25 days for repeat violation of the rules governing the organization of mass events, Ponomaryov's public defender Irina Yatsenko said.

"Lev Aleksandrovich filed an appeal today. We think it will be considered tomorrow or on Monday," Yatsenko told Interfax.

On Wednesday, the Tverskoi Court found Ponomaryov guilty of organizing an unauthorized event called "For Our and Your Children" in Moscow's Lubyanka Square on October 28. He was sentenced to 25 days of administrative arrest.
