Over 100 inmates report FSIN employees' violence to rights commissioner
MOSCOW. Dec 14 (Interfax) - Russian Human Rights Commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova said she has received over 100 reports on the illegal use of force against inmates since the beginning of the year.
"I received over a hundred reports from inmates on the illegal use of physical force and non-lethal weapons by employees of the penal enforcement system in the first ten months of this year alone," Moskalkova said at a joint meeting of the Federation Council speaker's council for interaction with civil society and the council of human rights commissioners, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The leadership of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) is in dialogue with the commissioner's office and civil society, she said.
"But as of today, with their efforts and the efforts of prosecutorial supervision a situation that meets society's demands has not been achieved," Moskalkova said.
