Former Armenian PM Karapetyan withdraws from Republican Party

YEREVAN. Dec 18 (Interfax) - Former Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan has withdrawn from the Republican Party of former President Serzh Sargsyan which he joined in November 2016.

"Karapetyan has submitted a statement on his withdrawal from the party. He is no longer a party member," head of the Republican Party's organizing commission Ruben Tadevosyan told Interfax on Tuesday.

Karapetyan left the post of the Republican Party's first deputy head in June 2018.

The formerly ruling Republican Party turned into opposition after protest movement leader Nikol Pashinyan was elected Armenian prime minister. The Republican Party lost the early parliamentary election on December 9.

Karapetyan was the Armenian prime minister in 2016-2018.
