Federation Council approves law on unwelcome foreign agent NGOs interfering in elections
MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - The Federation Council has approved the law recognizing foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that interfere in elections unwelcome in Russia.
The law envisages the possibility of recognizing the activities of a foreign or international NGO as unwelcome in Russia, if such activities facilitate or hinder the nomination of candidates, lists of candidates, the election of registered candidates, the launching or holding of a referendum, and certain outcomes of elections or referendums.
"Participation in other forms of electoral campaigns and campaigns for referendums, excluding participation in electoral campaigns and campaigns for referendums as foreign (international) observers," can be also deemed as unwelcome activities.
