Russian Foreign Ministry on U.S. leaving Syria: We should wait and see how this decision is fulfilled

MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - Moscow will be monitoring the fulfillment of the United States' decision to leave Syria, Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said, adding that the U.S. military presence in Syria was unlawful.

"We should wait and see how this decision [to withdraw U.S. troops] will be fulfilled. In fact, the U.S. military presence in the Syrian territory is unlawful, no one invited them," Bogdanov said.

"I am not ready to make any assumptions, because we have pledged to respect the sovereignty and unity of Syria together with the Turks and even with the Americans," he said in response to a question about Kurdish forces on the eastern bank of the Euphrates in Syria.

Some Kurdish units described the U.S.' decision to leave Syria as a betrayal, Bogdanov said.
