Russia interested in extension of New START - Lavrov
MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - Russia is interested in the extension of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
"As concerns the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, as you know, we are doing quite a lot to eliminate possible irritants with regard to this Treaty, and we are interested in its extension," Lavrov said at a press conference on Wednesday.
"Many countries have worries that phasing [New START] out is also among the U.S. administration's plans," he said.
"We hope this is not so," Lavrov said.
