Lukashenko calls for prevention of Ukrainian scenario from occurring in Belarus
MINSK. Jan 18 (Interfax) - The "fire" from the events in Ukraine should be prevented from spreading to Belarus, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.
"Everyone wants to benefit from the situation in Ukraine. And the fire that is now raging there, we don't know how it will end. It should not spread to Belarus. Therefore, we need to be very cautious, careful, and we should do everything we can to prevent internal destabilization in the country," Lukashenko was quoted as saying by the state news agency BelTA at a meeting ahead of the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian diplomatic service.
"It looks like an overwhelming majority of our population and even an overwhelming majority of our so-called opposition understands that this could end very badly," Lukashenko said.
