Udaltsov says protesters against transferring Kurils to Japan detained near embassy
MOSCOW. Jan 22 (Interfax) - Left Front coordinator Sergei Udaltsov has reported the detention of 11 persons protesting "Japan's claims to the Kuril Islands" near the Japanese embassy in Moscow on Tuesday.
"There was a picket near the Japanese embassy. We planned a meeting with deputies and a turnout of about one hundred," Udaltsov told Interfax.
The police detained 11 people holding signs, he said, adding that they were taken to the Krasnoselskoye police station. "They are explaining their behavior. Three have been released," he said.
An authorized protest against the transfer of some Kuril Islands to Japan took place in Moscow on January 20.
