Attempt to usurp power in Venezuela violates int'l law - Peskov

MOSCOW. Jan 24 (Interfax) - The Kremlin believes that the attempt to usurp power in Venezuela is a violation of international law, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

Interference by outside parties is unacceptable and may have very negative consequences, he said.

"We believe that the attempt to usurp power in Venezuela contradicts and violates the foundations and principles of international law. That is the foundation of our position. We are following developments in Venezuela closely, and we are very concerned, in part due to statements that do not rule out outside interference by third countries in the course of events, the internal affairs of Venezuela," Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

The Kremlin considers such a course of events "unacceptable, capable of having very negative consequences," he said.

"We consider words about some kind of forceful action to be very dangerous," Peskov said.
