EU ready to assist in implementing new environmental protection technologies in Central Asia - envoy
TASHKENT. Jan 25 (Interfax) - The European Union is ready to share practices and assist in implementing new environmental protection technologies in Central Asia, EU Special Representative for Central Asia Peter Burian said at the EU-Central Asia conference held in Tashkent on January 24 and 25.
Central Asian countries and the EU have established an intensive dialogue on the rational use of water resources, effective management of transborder rivers, and measures countering climate change. It is now possible to propose environmental protection measures and a shift to the circular economy, which is important to the region. The EU is ready to share practices and assist in implementing new technologies, Burian said.
He urged the EU and partners to pool efforts for the sake of sustainable and transborder management of water resources, adaptation to climate change, mitigation of climate change effects, improved environmental management, and a shift to the circular economy.
The high-level conference in Tashkent is addressing ways of mitigating climate change effects and promoting the green economy in the region. It has brought together delegations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, representatives of nature conservancy organizations of EU member states and relevant UN agencies, EBRD specialists, and heads of international analytical centers.
The conference will adopt a package of program documents and approve a technical assignment of the EU-Central Asia working group, committee deputy head at the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry Igor Koval told the press on the forum's sidelines.
