Saratov terrorist abettor gets 6-year sentence
SARATOV. Jan 28 (Interfax) - The Volzhsky District Court in Saratov has sentenced a local resident, Ildar Kurmakayev, for aiding and abetting terrorism, the press service of the Saratov region branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Monday.
According to investigators, Kurmakayev corresponded by email with supporters of illegal armed formations operating in Syria.
He was looking for companions to travel to Syria with in order to join the militants.
The court found Kurmakayev guilty of "preparations for joining an illegal armed formation operating in a foreign country with goals contravening Russia's interests" and sentenced him to six years in a general penitentiary and one year of restricted freedom.
