Court ruling upholding ex-Armenian president Kocharyan's arrest politically motivated - lawyer

YEREVAN. Feb 7 (Interfax) - The Armenian Court of Appeal's ruling upholding the arrest of former president Robert Kocharyan, who is charged with overthrowing the constitutional system, is politically motivated, Kocharyan's defense lawyer Hayk Alumyan said.

"We see the court's ruling negatively. The legal component in this case is equal to zero, it's a 100% political decision taken in the context of a political order," Alumyan said.

The court that turned down the defense's appeal of Kocharyan's arrest also denied him bail, he said.

"Robert Kocharyan, who was present at the hearing, also told us that justice was not administered and that this was political persecution. We will appeal this ruling with the Cassation Court and will also forward yet another appeal to the ECHR," Alumyan said.
