DEA, BP start gas production at two more West Nile Delta fields
MOSCOW. Feb 12 (Interfax) - DEA, an oil and gas company controlled by Mikhail Fridman's LetterOne, and British major BP have begun production at two additional gas fields under the West Nile Delta project, DEA said in a press release.
The Fayoum and Giza fields will initially produce about 400 million cubic feet of gas per day and are expected to increase output to a maximum of about 700 mmcfd.
BP, the operator and majority shareholder of the West Nile Delta - North Alexandria and West Mediterranean Deep Water concessions, and DEA (with the remaining 17.25%) began production in the West Nile Delta in March 2017 with the first two fields, Taurus and Libra. They are now preparing the Raven field, which DEA said will be launched in 2019.
When it is fully on stream, combined gas production from the West Nile Delta project is expected to reach about 1.4 billion cubic feet per day, DEA said. All the gas produced will supply the domestic Egyptian market.
DEA has had a presence in Egypt since 1974 through the joint venture Suez Oil Company (SUCO) with Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC).
