Almost one-fourth of Azerbaijan's population live in Baku - State Statistics Committee

BAKU. Feb 18 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's population rose 0.8% in 2018, reaching 9.98 million, the State Statistics Committee told Interfax.

As of January 1, 2019, 22.8% of the country's population, or 2.75 million people, live in Baku.

Azerbaijan's population density is 115 people per square kilometer.

A total of 52.8% of the country's population live in cities and 47/2% live in villages. A total of 49.9% of the people are men and 50.1% are women.

A total of 138,982 babies were born in the country in 2018. The birth rate was 14.2 babies per 1,000 people in 2018. A total of 2,422 twins and 117 triplets were born in Azerbaijan in 2018.

A total of 57,250 people died in Azerbaijan in 2018. The death rate was 5.8 per 1,000 people.

A total of 62,484 marriages and 14,857 divorces were registered in Azerbaijan in 2018.

In 2018, the relevant structures of the country's Interior Ministry and the State Migration service registered 3,220 people who had come to Azerbaijan to live there permanently, whilst 1,580 people left the country.
